Abstract
This study aims at developing socio-psychological rehabilitation programs and verifying their effectiveness in order to give addicted gamblers synthetic psycho-social rehabilitation. We conducted 36 times¡¯ group programs on inpatients for gambling rehabilitation ward and non-inpatients(gamblers in the community facilities). The major findings are as follows. First, the participants of psychological medical programs showed significant differences concerning not only inclination to gambling but also the degree of passion for gambling before their participation. There were many cases that showed improvement in self-esteem even though there were no statistical significances. As for social adjustment, their roles as a family member showed noticeable differences, and it was also the same in general problem-solving abilities. Second, the participants of community consultation services, however, showed significant decreases in their inclinations to gambling. As for the degree of passion for gambling, the results of pre and first post test were statistically significant with some cases of increases at the time of their transfers to community consultation services, but eventually there were more cases that showed decreases in passion for gambling after second post test. In terms of self-esteem, there were lots of cases of improvement at pre and first post tests, however, there was s tendency to decrease in self-esteem after post test. And as for social adjustment, the participants who completed the program showed more statistical significances at second post test than at pre test. Especially from the side of their family relationships, more remarkable statistical significances were noticed after they finished all the courses than they were at pre test. we propose improvement plans such as ©ç consistent verification of the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs for gamblers, ©è verification of the effectiveness of small group programs, ©é establishment of program-connection system with community facilities, etc.
